Interview with author Ashley Dawn

Today at Reviews and Interviews is author Ashley Dawn to talk about her newest series novel Shadows of Pain as part of a virtual book tour.

Bio:
Author Ashley Dawn was born and raised in rural Arkansas where she developed her love for writing while helping in her parent's office. She graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Central Arkansas but is currently working as a legal assistant. Ashley has been writing professionally for the past eight years and has three published books. Her first book, Shadows From The Past, was originally published by Tate Publishing and is considered more of a traditionally published book while the second, Shadows of Suspicion, was published by self publication using AuthorHouse. She is currently working on multiple projects including a standalone mystery about a serial killer that remains untitled.

Welcome to Reviews and Interviews, Ashley. Please tell us about your current release.
Shadows of Pain is the third in my Shadows series. All of my characters from earlier books flow in and out of the story line but it focuses on Kami Reynolds and Daniel Jenkins. Kami, an FBI agent and Daniel, and LAPD officer have been attracted since they met, but there have always been issues standing in their way. Now, with a killer after them, their issues resolved, it seems like the worst time for a relationship to start but maybe it is just perfect for them.

What inspired you to write this book?
I absolutely fell in love with Kami’s character in my first book, Shadows From the Past and Daniel always had more of a story to tell. The two of them have always fit together, but needed their own story. That is what Shadows of Pain has done, given the two of them their own story and continued the story of the whole Reiley and LAPD group.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I’m currently trying to focus on a new book that isn’t related to my Shadows Series. It is titled Right to Remanin?, at the moment anyway, and is about a nurse, Lisa, and an attorney, Pierce. They have a past, but when Lisa’s niece is threatened by a serial killer, she turns to him for help. They have to struggle to keep Kymm safe and themselves alive.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I guess I really considered myself a writer when I completed my first book, about eight years ago. Before that, I’d always dabbled in writing but had never focused on it as something I really wanted to do. When I started writing Shadows From the Past, it was like everything fit and writing became my passion. I absolutely love writing and sharing my thoughts!

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I only wish I could write full time. At the moment, I work as a legal assistant full time and am the mother of two little ones so most of my writing happens either late in the evening--like 1 a.m.--or on a weekend. If I can get the kids in bed and housework done, it is wonderful to spend the evening lost in my own world, if not, my husband is great about giving me time on the weekends when he is spending time with the kids. I don’t get a whole LOT of time to write but I do make the best of the time I do get!

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I would say that the most interesting quirk I have is the fact that I write down the whole story. I mean literally take a legal pad and pen and write down whatever story I’m working on. From there, I do type it up and edit etc after that but the only way I can make the story work for me is to sit down and hand write the whole thing!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a vet. There were several things actually, a biologist, vet, zoo worker...pretty much anything that had to do with animals. I loved and still love all kinds of animals but the path to those jobs just didn’t work. For the vet, I was terrified of needles and that pretty much cut that out. Zoo worker and biologist just aren’t in demand because there are so many people who want that type of work and besides, that is when I fell in love with writing!

Interview with novelist Chris Lindberg

Today's guest is author Chris Lindberg. He's touring his novel Code of Darkness through the VBT Cafe.

Bio:
Chris Lindberg was born and raised outside Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Northern Illinois University in the mid-1990s, he headed out to the west coast for a couple of years, where he began writing as a casual pastime.

Some time after returning to Chicago he began attending writers workshops at StoryStudio Chicago, where he wrote two character studies, both of which have since been developed into key characters in Code of Darkness.

Chris now lives outside Chicago with his wife Jenny and their two children, Luke and Emma. You might catch him working away on his second novel while commuting on his morning train into the city.

Chris, welcome to Reviews and Interviews. Please tell us about your current release.
Code of Darkness is my first novel. It’s a dark thriller that also has elements of sci-fi and even a little horror. It centers around a mysterious vigilante only known as Rage, and Larry Parker, the Chicago Police officer who is hot on his tail. When Rage’s past catches up with him, a covert Black Ops division within the Pentagon is dispatched to find Rage, and eliminate Parker, who is seen as knowing too much. The deadly chase takes them cross-country to a top-secret military facility, where the greatest danger of all awaits.

What inspired you to write this book?
I’ve always enjoyed stories about darker, misunderstood characters, anti-heroes. Stories about good versus evil, and all of the shades in between. Several years ago, Rage’s character came into my head, so I began writing him. Then another character came, followed by a third. Before I knew it, I had woven them together into a story, which ultimately became the foundation for Code of Darkness.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I’m bouncing back and forth between two projects: a coming-of-age space opera, and an apocalyptic thriller. But I’m getting some welcome feedback from readers that I should be doing a sequel to Code of Darkness, so I suppose I’d better get working on that, too.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I think it kind of happened over time, where I just kept writing, and what I was creating kept getting progressively better … and then before I knew it, I had a whole novel put together. Once I’d finished it and edited it to where it seemed like a complete story, that’s when I finally thought I could call myself a writer.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I wish I did write full-time, but I have a day job too. And did I mention two kids at home! It’s hard to find the time, but I have the mixed blessing of a long commute to work: I take a train every morning and evening, and that gives me about ninety minutes every day to write.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Hmm, great question. I’d have to say that since I wrote most of Code of Darkness while riding a commuter train, believe it or not, I find that I write a lot better if I’m in motion. Cars, trains, planes, buses … I get a lot more done in those than while sitting still.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid, I think I originally wanted to be a doctor or a firefighter, but then I started drawing, and wanted to be a cartoonist for the longest time. But the next Charles M. Schulz I was not. I still enjoy drawing every once and again though – maybe I’ll try my hand at a graphic novel someday …

Interview with non-fiction writer Laura Rodela

Today's guest is non-fiction writer Laura Rodela. She's touring her debut book Confessions with VBT Cafe all this month.

Laura Rodela is originally from El Paso, TX and is currently residing in Fort Worth, TX. Laura is a proud mother of one daughter and enjoys writing, volunteer work, performing, and traveling. She is currently working on her second book.

Laura, welcome to Reviews and Interviews. Please tell us about your debut book.
Confessions is a book of memoirs. The five ladies featured in the book embark on a journey of self discovery, self love, and self acceptance. It is about friendships that have lasted over fifteen years and how their unbreakable friendship took them on a ride of a lifetime.

What inspired you to write this book?
Putting my life out there for everyone to read about and hopefully learn from is what inspired me to write this book. I felt like I had a lot to share with other women who might be dealing with the same things and maybe in some way help them get through it. Accepting yourself can be a tough process and I have finally reached that point. I want to help others reach it too.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I am currently working on my second book which is about five women in different stages of their lives, but all have a few things in common. This book is about the hidden truths and the women's private and public personas.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I started working on Confessions I was not sure I could write a compelling story. A friend told me to write from my heart and just put it on paper. That was the best advice I ever received. I believe what makes someone a writer is having a passion for the pen. I am passionate about writing and continue to improve with each chapter I write. I didn't truly consider myself a writer until I finished my first book.

Do you write full-time? if so, what's your work day like? if not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I don't write full-time. I have a very demanding day job and lots of responsibility that comes with it. Please forgive me for not discussing what I do, but I do like to keep my career and my writing separate. I mostly write at night when I have time to be alone with my mind. I enjoy writing while sipping some hot tea and looking up at the stars. That is when I get most inspired.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I don't write one chapter at a time. I skip chapters and write as I feel inspired. I could be working on chapter 1 and 7 at the same time. I can't seem to follow a pattern.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a lawyer. I love challenges and being a lawyer seemed the kind of job that provided excitement and challenge on daily basis. Unfortunately, I ended up doing something else. However, I do plan on applying for law school in a couple of years. It's never too late.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
Follow your passions and never give up. I have learned a lot from writing my first book and that is helping me become a better writer. When I decided to write Confessions a lot of people doubted I could do it, but I believed in myself and that is something I am proud of.

Embody is the second novel in my Insight series. In this novel the characters are taken to the next level of emotion, the love of soul-mates is truly tested. The choices they make take them on a path that is twisted, dangerous and life changing.

What inspired you to write this book?
Some of the greatest ideas come from nowhere and are so strong that they stop you cold in your tracks. The first flash of inspiration for the Insight series was so powerful that I felt every emotion as if I was living through these dark moments with my characters. The beautiful green eyed girl was lost, trapped inside a darkness that refused to release her, and a breathtaking blue eyed boy was trying desperately to make her remember who she was - how powerful she was. This scene never surfaced in Insight. I was so eager to get to this, that there was literally no time spared between writing Insight and Embody. I simply had to explore the daydream that had haunted me for so long.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I’m really excited to be preparing for my next release, Image, in November. I’m also avidly writing not only the Insight series, but a new ‘yet to be named’ series that has captured my daydreams.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I’m still having a hard time with that title. I find myself blushing when someone introduces me as an author/writer. Honestly I see myself as an avid daydreamer – that seems to fit perfectly.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I can only dream of being a full time writer. Right now I have a very active business career and a young family. My writing is my ‘me’ time. It starts around 10PM and I write until midnight. On weekends I have been known to write for twelve straight hours when I have strong idea in mind.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Talking to the computer screen - odd I know, but I get really excited or emotional at times.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
What is so funny about this question is that I had no idea. I envied my friends who knew exactly what they wanted to be or had a talent that clearly showed itself to the world.

I remember filling out applications for college and staring down at all of the pamphlets and careers I could chase. In one afternoon my imagination allowed me to be a veterinarian, photographer, teacher, business woman, and everything else that was available. I remember growing frustrated with myself as I thought the words ‘the only thing I’m good at is daydreaming.’
Years later I’ve come to realize that sometimes the obvious answer is not that obvious, and I’m grateful I finally found something useful to do with my overactive imagination!

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
I adore every one of my readers! I cannot tell you how excited I get when I receive an email, read a review, or see a post talking about the Insight series – I could not thank you enough for taking a chance on a debut author – my gratitude is truly more than I could explain in simple words.

What inspired you to write this book?
This story is part of Liquid Silver Books Strange Hollow line. The inspiration came from two things. The first, I read a couple stories from this line and loved the world. The second, my muse needed a break. I’d written four novels and wanted to do something light—a story that was full of humor, steamy passion and just plain ole’ fun! And that’s exactly what I got. I had a blast writing this book!

What exciting story are you working on next?
I’m in the process of editing Werewolves Be Damned – Magic & Mayhem Book One. It’ll be releasing with Entangled Publishing in April 2012. It’s a full-length urban fantasy romance that’s filled with snark, passion, danger and adventure in the Otherworld. Lots of fun!

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
After I wrote my first story and realized I could do! :)

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
Right now, I’m a part-time writer because of my son. I have one daughter who goes to school full time, but my son started Junior Kindergarten and goes to school half days in the afternoon. It’s four hours of pure bliss!

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
That I always need coffee! I can’t write a single word without it. Yes, strange, but it’s just the way I work.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a mom. The funny thing is being a stay-at-home-mom is what led me to write. I needed a way to keep things exciting while the kiddies napped, and that was why I wrote my first story.

AJ, welcome to Reviews and Interviews. Please tell us about your current release.
Pulse of Heroes is the first installment in The Pulse series. It weaves together elements from several different genres: romance, suspense, myth/fantasy, paranormal, history and at its core, a heroine’s journey and transformation. A truly crafted plot and a sensitive coming-of-age narrative of a quirky teenage girl protagonist becoming a confidant young woman with her own voice. At the same time, the book draws the reader into a gripping adventure filled with fantastic historical elements and the crushing intensity of first love. Pulse of Heroes is a YA/crossover novel with memorable characters and several story arcs. It has a multi-cultural perspective with characters from around the globe, and a prominent female point-of-view.

What inspired you to write this book?
My love of history and my love for people, especially young adults. I wanted to bring forth a deeper story but that would be just as fun and exciting as the rest.

What exciting story are you working on next?
The second installment in The Pulse series is almost done and is set to be released Oct 31st 2011.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Since I always wrote as a hobby I always saw myself as ‘a writer’, but it wasn’t until the publishing of Pulse of Heroes that I considered myself an author.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I write full time now, but I also run a household and do some interior design on the side. I write throughout the day, but sometimes I do all night sessions too.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I can’t stop writing once the whole plot is laid out in my brain. The characters go to sleep with me and are there when I first open my eyes- a bit obsessive.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An Opera singer

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
I really do love my readers. I craft every word with them on my mind. I also have an adorable pug named Buddha and two cats: Meyahu and Catmosis I.

Bio:
Kristie Cook is a lifelong, award-winning writer in various genres, from marketing communications to fantasy fiction. She continues to write the Soul Savers Series, with the first two books, Promise and Purpose, available now and the third book, Devotion, coming February 2012. She’s also written a companion novella, Genesis, coming October 2011.

Kristie, welcome to Reviews and Interviews. Please tell us about your current release.
Purpose is the second book in the Soul Savers Series, continuing the story of Alexis, Tristan, and the Amadis started in Promise, the first book. It picks up 9 years after Promise left off, in present day. Alexis must face both personal and real-life demons as she learns her purpose in life and begins the transformation into the woman she’ll have to become for the rest of the series.

What inspired you to write this book?
Promise and Purpose were originally written as one book and I started with a scene in my mind that became a pivotal scene in Purpose. After I wrote that scene—what I thought was just for fun for me—an ending came to mind, but first I had to find out how the characters even got to this scene in the first place. Before I knew it, I had a full book, which was really two. So, really, the characters inspired me to write it.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I am working on a novella that is a side story for the Soul Savers Series. It is about the beginning of the Amadis over 2,000 years ago.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I’ve been a writer, in one capacity or another, since I was 8 years old. My entire career has included writing and/or editing as my main duty, so I’ve always considered myself a writer. Not until I had that first draft of Promise/Purpose done did I really think I could possibly be a fiction author.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
Sort of. I own two businesses with the same business partner. The second business is a publishing company that publishes my books. My main job function has become writing and running the publishing company, but I’m still pretty involved in the other company, too. We provide consulting services to the construction industry.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
When I’m gearing up to write or need to think something through, I listen to appropriate music and play Minesweeper. It’s the stupidest game, but it’s what my brain needs. The counting is mundane but enough of a distraction and it uses the other side of my brain than writing, giving the creative half a break. If that doesn’t work, I’ll take a shower. LOL My best ideas come to me in the shower, though.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A writer. Or a pilot or a teacher or a hotel owner. But mostly a writer. Oh, and a mom. Definitely always wanted to be a mom.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
Just that I hope you’ll give both Promise and Purpose a chance. Although I had to split them into two books, I really intend them to be read together. Otherwise, you don’t get the full story. At least, the beginning of the story. The rest is still to come. ;)

Interview with author Martin Sharlow

Paranormal writer Martin Sharlow joins us today as he travels to many stops with a virtual book tour through The VBT Cafe.

Welcome, Martin. Please tell us about your current release, Shades of Blood.
My current release is the sequel to Shades of Twilight. Basically, this book takes off from the very next morning after the ending of the last book. Needless to say, the story that began in book 1 is far from over, and our heroes are just finding this out.

I actually like this one better than the first, and that's mostly because I get to see the characters grow more in this one. In the first book I was laying a foundation for who they basically were, now we get a chance to see where they're going. A lot of people didn't like Melissa's personality in book 1, and I have to admit, I didn't like it either. But these books are like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. When I started book 1 I was looking at Melissa's personality as a whole, covering more than just the first book. So I'm hoping people will like her more as she grows.

What inspired you to write this book?
Mostly, the story wasn't over and it needed to go on. I could have left it where it was, but I really had a need to see Melissa grow. So more than anything, that is the driving factor.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I'm actually working on several projects at the moment. A lot of them are only in the outline or idea stage. But off the top, I'm working on a novelette that's actually my first vampire erotica story. I'm hoping that will be out in July.

I also have a novella I'm several chapters into. It's about a young man who finds himself turned against his will into a vampire, and is left to fend for himself with no idea what to do. In the end he decides that for his family's safety it would be better that they think he was dead. Unfortunately for him he later finds out that his family died under mysterious circumstances after he left, and his living younger sister has disappeared. This leads him into the plot of the book, in his search for answers about exactly what happened to his family and his attempts to locate his sister. Of course he meets people along the way, and discovers a love interest for himself as well. I don't want to give too much away, but I have high hopes for this one.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Well, I have always written somewhat. I never actually expected to be a writer, I kind of just woke up one day and found out, "hey I'm a writer." So it's been kind of a big surprise to me, but I'm actually starting to really enjoy it.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I am a full-time writer. Whatever that is… I'd love to say that I write all the time, but the truth is sometimes it's like pulling teeth when I'm trying to get myself to write. It's not that I don't enjoy writing, it's more like my hobby has become a job, and trust me that isn't always good. Not that I would change it. My biggest problem, is that I can't find a comfortable or conducive place to work. Sometimes I can get away with working at home. More often than not I find myself getting most my work done at places like McDonald's or Starbucks. A couple of times, I actually wrote at a hotel room on the ocean. That was cool, except I never really got the chance to actually walk down by the water. Working, you know.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I suppose the most interesting writing quirk I'm having right now is that I'm trying out using Dragon speak software. I'm hoping that it will increase my productivity. I'm suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome at the moment, so my typing is really slow, as well as painful. So if this works out, I should actually be able to write more. Which is a good thing, except I won't be actually able to use the software anywhere but home or a hotel room. After all, the noise in most places would wreck havoc on the voice-recognition not to mention I'm sure people would be staring at me as I dictated stories.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Believe it or not, up until the age of eight I wanted to be an archaeologist. I don't know why I got that in my head, most likely because of my interest in dinosaurs at the time. I believe a schoolteacher changed my mind about it when they told me how difficult finding work as an archaeologist would be. I think it went something like "the world can only support a couple of archaeologist at one time." So I gave up my little dream then. After that, I just decided I wanted to be a millionaire, not that I had any plan or for that matter ever succeeded.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
Just one thing about my book. When I wrote it, I decided I wanted my characters in the real world. Not just some alternate world. So I tried to breathe life into them and make them as real as possible. Some people don't like the fact that I made references to the Twilight series. But Melissa is a fan of the books, not to mention various other vampire series. So her entire knowledge base comes from paranormal romance vampire books. She only has those as a frame of reference to attempt to understand what's going on in her life right now. I don't know about anyone else, but I've met lots of people that wish they had a vampire lover like in all the books. You have to admit that if you found yourself in such a situation, wouldn't you find yourself referencing those source materials in an attempt to understand what was going on? Melissa can't help but try to find parallels between herself and say Bella or some other lead girl in a different vampire novel. So try to keep that in mind as you read the books. I know if I was her I would expect at least some similarities to the books I read. Anyways I hope you enjoy it, and I want to thank you for allowing me to share on your blog with you.

Today's interview is with paranormal novelist Tamara Rose Blodgett.

Welcome, Tamara. Please tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a 'thinking-out-of-the box' paranormal enthusiast who believes there's a 95% chance zombies do not exist; but loves to write as if they do. I'm from Alaska and have worked as an online journalist in the past. I enjoyed writing Death Whispers and am hard at work on book two, Death Speaks, (pub. Aug. 2011). My paranormal romance, The Pearl Savage, is due to publish in mid-June.

In my spare time I'm a [reluctant] serial-re-modeler, project-slave and big time, in-my-pants reader (surprise!). I do a great deal of day-dreaming about impossible scenarios and events, writing books to capture them in stories for you. Side note: Gnomes should be exterminated.

Please tell us about your debut young adult novel.
Death Whispers features Caleb, who has the most rare of the paranormal powers, Cadaver-Manipulation (aka corpse-raiser).

In this world of the future, with Brain Impulse “pulse” Technology’s wide-spread use and influence keenly realized, routine school inoculation has expanded to include a pharmaceutical cocktail, which once administered, unlocks the genetic potential for paranormal abilities. Using this small window of puberty, teens who have the genetic propensity find themselves manifesting extraordinary gifts; some of which garner the full attention of our government.

Caleb must camouflage his new “talent” during the mandatory eighth grade Aptitude Test so that he remains undiscovered while establishing choice for his future. However, events beyond his control systematically reveal Caleb and his friends, which force them to fight for their freedom.

In the midst of this struggle, his girlfriend's father battles to reassert his abusive dominance in her life while a couple of “peer enemies” thwart his efforts of secrecy at every turn. In the explosive climax, Caleb must protect his friends, and Jade, the one he loves...at all costs.

What inspired you to write this book?
I have a pack of voracious male readers in the household that were tired of contrived prose from the male POV and wanted "truer" dialogue/action/interaction/responses that read more believably. Having raised four sons, I decided to "go for it," and Death Whispers was born. I love all paranormal premise and enjoyed creating this unique, futuristic world where teens are given more than they bargained for and the adults did not have a solid contingency plan for the consequence of it!

What exciting story are you working on next?
I am currently writing the sequel in the Death Series, Death Speaks, which will publish on or before August 15.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
When I was thirteen (1980) my English teacher gave us a writing challenge to finish the beginning of a story. We submitted our "endings," and he read each one (anonymously). Mine won and I remember thinking, "Wow, maybe I can do something with this day-dreaming I'm always doing..."

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
No...not exactly. I have a family that warrants attention and messes which crop up daily (you guys feel me on this) so I have to contain the creativity into "blocks." Writing could easily consume my life. I finally had to implement some balance to survive. In the AM, I do about an hour and a half of emails/tweets/posts/correspondence/promotional stuff and in the afternoon I write between one to four o'clock in the afternoon. An average day is about 2500 to 3K words but I *love* when I get a 5K day in! Wonderful! The coolest thing is the WORLD is I don't have the dreaded writer's block and I am completely grateful!

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I have to have coffee (even if it's cold) and music blaring. But not just ANY music...it must fit the "writing mood." Whatever enigmatic thing that is! Lol!

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A journalist, I never dreamed of the possibility that is now before me. I had a parent that was very concerned about a "real" job that would make me an income. And that is tremendously important (to avoid the naked-and-starving mode). But! In the end, encouraging aptitude, ambition and drive in the area of talent turns out to always be the way to go IMHO.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
I appreciate each and every one of you! I am a ginormous reader myself and it's precious time that we spend reading a story. I sure appreciate yours spent reading mine. Thank you all!

Author Ashley Dawn was born and raised in rural Arkansas where she developed her love for writing while helping in her parent's office. She graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Central Arkansas. Ashley has been writing professionally for the past seven years. She and her family make their home in TX.

Please tell us about your current release.
Shadows of Suspicion is the second book in my Shadows series. It has a lot of the same characters from Shadows from the Past but focuses on a different couple. Kerry and Luke are the focus of this book. Kerry is the sister to Jordan Reiley from book one and is a school teacher. She gets drawn into the ongoing struggle between the law and the Deveraux crime family. Luke, an acquaintance of her brother, is sent to bring her back when she is kidnapped by Deveraux. Together they have to fight to stay alive and the bigger risk seems to be to Luke’s heart.

What inspired you to write this book?
I fell in love with the Reiley family in my first book. Each member is unique and I felt like they deserved their own story. Actually, I think I fell in love with all my characters and since their characteristics are based off my family members, it makes them seem more real to me. I will write about any of them that inspire me to write a story!

What exciting story are you working on next?
At the moment, I’m working on two different books. I’m working on the third book in my Shadows series, Shadows of Pain, that is going to focus on Kami and Daniel. Also, I’m working on a stand alone book that doesn’t have a title yet, but is about an attorney and a nurse trying to find a serial killer. They are in a race against time to find the killer before he kills someone very dear to them.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I’ve always written, mostly songs, poems, and little stories for my niece and nephews. I actually sat down to write my first novel at the age of 19 and it was finished in a year. I think I considered myself a writer when I decided to pursue publication of my novel. Before that, it had just been something to do for fun, but with my family’s support (and pushing!) I got it published.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I don’t write full time. I have a full time job working as a legal assistant in a criminal defense attorney’s office. I find time at nights and on the weekends. There is very little ‘extra’ time in my life so I have to force myself to take the time and sit down to write. My children make that even more difficult, but I do try to get in some time every week (if not more often) to get work done on one of my books.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I would say having to write every word on a legal pad before I’ll type it is my weirdest or most interesting quirk. I have specific colored legal pads and pens for each book. I don’t know why I started it that way, but that is how I started writing my first book and now it is just something I have to do.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a biologist or zoologist and work with big animals. I actually started my degree in biology in college but changed it to accounting to be able to obtain a job more easily. The animals I really wanted to work with though were big cats like cougars, leopards, and lions. I still think that would have been great but I am happy with how my life is going.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
I want to go a little sappy on you and say everyone follow your dreams! If your dream is to travel the world, go for it. If your dream is to be on TV, work toward it. If your dream is to be a stay at home mom, you can do that, too! Anything is possible and if you don’t try for your dreams, you won’t get help along the way, but the harder you try, the more likely it is you will achieve your dreams!

Please tell us about your current release.
Silent Kill is about Louise Miller, a lesbian cop trying to track down the person who murdered a fellow officer, and one of her few friends on the force. It's about her brother, Andrew (aka New Age), who's trying to be the best Sheriff's Deputy he can be. It's about Melanie Cartier, a lawyer set on getting revenge for her clients, and then for herself. It's about William Gillespy, a psychiatrist who feels that the world is out to get him. It's about Elias who just wishes people would do what he says. And tying them all together, it's about SK, a rottweiler.

What kind of research do you do to make your novels realistic?
For Silent Kill, I took part in the Citizens Academy run by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department and learned a lot about procedure. I was also fortunate enough to go on a couple of ride-a-longs with deputy sheriffs. Also, working for bunches of years in the court system, I picked up a thing or two.

Did anything in the writing of the current book come as a surprise to you?
Very much so. When I started writing this book, Andrew was the main protagonist. Louise was going to be a very minor character used mostly to guide him along, being that he was a rookie. The deeper into the book I got, the more Louise started taking over. Halfway through it became clear that she was going to be the central character. I had to do a lot of rewriting in the early chapters.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
This is my first novel and quite a learning experience. I'd probably spend more time working on an outline. After the first draft I read it over and noticed some places where the timeline made no sense. People were reacting to things that hadn't happened yet. I'm guessing some astute readers might catch that.

Do you write full-time? If so, what’s your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I do write full time. My typical day is get up and grab a Diet Mountain Dew for breakfast (I know, I know, but I don't drink coffee and it's my caffeine fix), check email, read the paper online (do the crossword puzzle and crypto quip, then get to work for a few hours, take a break for about an hour, then work a few more hours. Yup – I lead one exciting life.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?
In the evening I pretty much veg out in front of the TV (again, that life in the fast lane). I also love walking and there's a number of wonderful lakes around here to walk around. Occasionally I'll even find time to exercise.

What inspired you to write this book?
An incident that a friend experienced. A good friend of mine was sleeping with his wife's cousin.

What exciting story are you working on next?
My next book is titled Blocked In. A touching drama-filled story about a young girl who's sold for drugs and later starts selling her body for money.
After wanting to let the game go, her pimp is not hearing it. The only way out is murder.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
After my first book showed up on amazon, barnes and noble, and in books a million.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I am a full time writer and publisher. My day-to-day consists of promoting my authors, dealing with printers and distributors, and writing.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Probably the way I turn my tablet away from me while I write. People just can't figure out how I write sideways.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an actor.

Please tell us about The Sorcerer's Dream.
The Sorcerer’s Dream is about my initiation into the sorcerer’s world and mastering conscious dreaming. It is a spiritual adventure in the tradition of Carlos Castaneda which takes the reader into the magic realms of the unknown and one can learn and practice the Art of Dreaming (the skill of conscious dreaming or lucid dreaming) him/herself.

What inspired you to write this book?
Meeting a "man of knowledge" who taught me the art of mastering conscious dreaming and he suggested me to share this knowledge.

What exciting story are you working on next?
The art of dreaming is one of the teachings of Totality I write about in this book. My dreaming teacher, Vidar, explained there are four practices that guide the apprentice into the totality: the art of dreaming, stalking, hunting, and the art of the warrior. He said: “Gradually you will learn to master all of them, but because you are a dreamer the art of dreaming is the most important one for you. On the way to the totality you will learn to master your dreaming, which means that ordinary dreams will come to a halt and will be replaced by the dreaming of the spirit. Ordinary dreams come to a stop, disappear because they are primitive, and take up too much energy. As you master your dreaming, you will have medicine dreams and visions that guide you into the totality.” More about that you will read in my first book.

My second book will be about the art of stalking, as I explained one of the next teachings of Totality.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I don’t know if I am a real writer, maybe I feel myself a real writer after writing another book (and another one and another one). But the feeling of being a real writer came more close when I discovered I loved to write this book and also that I want to continue it day and night (impossible of course) and that it gave me so much energy.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I’m doing different things at the moment: I am a (freelance) journalist and publisher and besides that I have a healing practice and I give workshops about the Art of Dreaming. And of course I write, but not full time, so you can call that variety. :)

I write throughout the week because I love it and make time for it in the evenings and also a few hours in the weekends.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Well, that a good question: once I start writing, I can’t stop. But I think every writer has that!
Don't they?

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Like many kids, I changed my idea about that every week or every second :) because many things seemed nice and for many different reasons. But to mention a few that regularly came to my mind: painter, writer, healer, actress, singer, nurse, teacher, and then writer, artist, painter, healer and writer again. And I also wanted to be a cashier when I was 8 years old because I knew one girl from the supermarket who had such a nice red nails (and my mom didn’t allow me to polish my nails).

But the thought or wish to write a book about spirituality came back to my mind in a very natural - dreaming - way. I always had the feeling I was going to write about something like dreaming, healing and spiritual growth. Ever since my childhood, I had many dreams or visions telling me about my capacities about healing and dreaming, about myself, my future and about people around me. I felt a strong connection with my spiritual ancestors. For me, it was impossible to deny there is so much more beyond this life we are leading.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
I have been asked before what is the difference between conscious dreaming and astral traveling so I thought it would be nice to share my thoughts about that with the readers of this beautiful blog:

Astral travelers can have the sensation of having an existence separate from one's physical body, and being able to stand outside of oneself, looking at the reality from another point. Astral Travel, so it seems, and Out of body experiences (OOBEs) has similarities with Conscious dreaming. But it is not the same because conscious dreaming is the art of controlled dreaming. I understand from what I have been reading about Astral traveling that it happens spontaneously. But that doesn’t mean that a conscious dreamer can’t have the same sensations and experiences as an astral traveler and vice versa.

And please remember that conscious dreaming gives you a great feeling. If you dream consciously, you have control over events. Or at least the realization that you can control the situation. There will be a day that you can instruct yourself to dream about something; to fly like a bird or to meet a deceased loved one. Try it. It’s fun!

Please tell us about your current release Size Eight in a Size Zero World.
My main character, Lindsay is one of them (us). She is a typical woman for this new millennium, working a job, taking care of her family (one husband, two children, one dog, one apartment), running her household, overworked, unappreciated, no time for herself, a super multi-tasker, while her husband watches TV and plays on the internet.

She struggles to keep a sense of herself. And then one day she meets someone who causes her to re-evaluate how she lives her life, turning her world upside down. It’s a very realistic journey she takes filled with humor and heart! An adventure into New York City society and relationships.

What inspired you to write this book?
I returned to school to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Nursing, years after completing my MBA. It was daunting. The first time I sat down to study for an exam, I had funny ideas racing through my head. I had a difficult time focusing and actively started daydreaming. I couldn’t concentrate, so I went with the flow and wrote down all those funny, random thoughts. And the writing didn’t stop until Size Eight in a Size Zero World was completed.

I’m not sure if that qualifies as inspiration, but that is my story.

What exciting story are you working on next?
Readers of Size Eight in a Size Zero World are asking me to write the story of “The Man Upstairs” character and they want to know what happens to Lindsay now. I’m not sure what I am going to do………………….Any suggestions?

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
The first time I was referred to as an author.

I work as a Registered Nurse. Writing has become a part of me, like eating milk chocolate, I love doing it. I am passionate about my characters and stories.

I get great ideas in my sleep!

I wanted to be a happy housewife and mother with a beautifully decorate large house!

I wanted everything and from the outside it appeared that I had everything: a loving husband and two beautiful healthy children and strong faith. A great house and all the things that go along with it. But even with all of those things I still felt something was missing. There was piece to the puzzle missing. If I could locate that missing part I would then be complete and happy.

My search led me in many different directions, mostly outside of myself for the answers. It wasn’t until, out of desperation, I asked for guidance and received it that I learned all the answers were all within me waiting to be discovered.

All I Want Is Everything, A Guide to Love, Peace and Happiness is my journey to find my everything. What I found was so much more than I could have ever hoped for. What I have created is a guide for readers to follow. The answers to the questions will lead you to your answers, “your everything”. You can then discover the secrets hidden safely, waiting inside for you to choose to bring them into the light.

What inspired you to write this book?
This book began as a letter to my children. Many years ago, when they were very young, I had embarked on a journey to find “my everything”. When they both began asking questions about why we are different in our thinking and attitude than others, I realized that they had lived almost their entire life in the light from what I learned.

They were raised differently and my relationship with my husband is different than most, in addition to the fact that we understand our place in the world and the way we live has served us all very well through pain and loss and even success. We know who we are and who we strive to be, we have a map to keep us on course and understand our great value to ourselves and the world, but do not compare ourselves to others, so our ego is not involved.

I was told by an angel while on my journey that I needed to go where there was no trail and leave a path. Until I wrote the letter to my children it did not dawn on me that the trail was my original journey and the path may be writing books for others to share and learn from my experience.

What exciting story are you working on next?
All I Want Is … Everything is the first of a series of four books. I understood from the beginning that there would be four books. They are somewhat sequential, building on the foundation you build with the first book and working your way through the last.

The first book is all about us, who we want to be, defining what “our everything” is and creating a map to guide us through life. The second will be about relationships. The third is about raising children and the fourth is about being successful and remaining bright in your spirit while having abundance present.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I think everyone who writes, published or unpublished is a writer. So I guess I have always felt I was a writer. I feel sad when people say they could never write. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, whether it is fiction or non-fiction. Just write your book tell your story, and once it is written decide what you want to do with it. Even if you or your family are the only ones that ever read it you will have left a piece of yourself. I believe in the end that is all we really have to give to the world, a small piece of ourselves. So all you people out there who think writing is some magical gift – it is not. Pick up a pen and give it a try!

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I do write full time. I have two favorite writing times at 4:00am or 7:00pm. I seem to write more productively when I am tired and have not had caffeine. I think everyone who writes for a living knows that writing is a very small part of the job. I do a lot of speaking engagements, coaching clients, work on marketing and PR, do radio and tv interviews. So writing a book is the easy part.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
The way I write my books is somewhat unique. I write with notebook paper and a pen, but I write the width of the paper across the lines from edge to edge. I also instruct all my readers when journaling to do the same. I think for conventional thinkers it puts you a bit uncomfortable and forces you to think outside the box slightly. When writing from emotion it feels better than writing on a computer or on the lines.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a nurse. I am very compassionate by nature and I thought they got to walk around and comfort people all day. When I found out all it entailed I realized I was not gifted with the innate skills to do the job. Since my dad was a business entrepreneur I thought that would nice.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
I would love people to understand their importance in the world and what a gift we have been given to be here. Each of us was put here for a reason and if you truly believe that then suddenly everyone has value. Each of us needs to seek out for ourselves, in whatever way works best for us, that purpose and passion that lies within us. To find the answers to allow us to have our “everything” and inspires us to live our life with passion. To take the time to work on those things that you decide are most important to you.

Please tell us about your current release.
The e-book guide is called Everything You Need to Know About the Security Clearance Process, But Are Afraid to Ask. It covers the process of obtaining and maintaining a security clearance. It is a lengthy process and people should know in advance what kind of questions will be asked. The United States is under constant threat of having individuals, fundamentalist groups, and foreign countries compromise the nation’s security. In order to combat this threat, the U.S. Federal Government maintains a process for identifying credible and trustworthy individuals, companies, and industries to assist with protecting our national interests and citizens. Obtaining a security clearance is a privilege, not a right.

What inspired you to write this book?
For this book, my inspiration was taken from my experience of working in the defense industry. I was asked the same question repeatedly and I thought it this would be a great book topic for those interested in obtaining a security clearance.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I have three books in the works, one is Can Cancer Be Cured by Alternative Medicines, the other is about workplace violence, and lastly about parents learning the meaning of the text codes that their children are currently using.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I really don’t consider myself a writer. Remember, this is my first attempt at writing and I have fallen in love. Some think it is just a phase, but I really enjoy it!

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
No, I do not write full time, I must say that I would love to have a full time career as a writer, but unfortunately, I have not sold enough books to have that dream job, so until that happens, I have a small security consulting company called Security First & Assoc. We help small to medium size defense contractors understand and stay in compliance with the rules and regulations of having a classified contract with the U.S. Government.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
While security is a dry subject, I tried to appreciate some humor injected into an otherwise humorless subject, plus I wanted to impress upon you that if you are afraid to ask questions, chances are that your questions are not any more outlandish than anything that I have addressed in the past.

Realize that it is far better to seek advice and have your questions answered before beginning the application process. Creating answers or avoiding questions puts you at high risk for delay or

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I am going to date myself, in my day it was called nursery school teacher, today it is called daycare owner.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
When seeking advice, it’s common to go to people that you know to get the inside scoop. I bet that you know someone who has a security clearance or had one previously. However, if you ask them a question about their job or the security clearance process, you’re likely to get the response, "… if I told you, I would have to kill you...", or “…well, I got mine a while ago and the laws and process have probably changed..”. So where do you go to get your information? You could spend months researching your questions and all the while, you run the risk of unknowingly saying the wrong thing that could get you flagged as a candidate for rejection.

The more productive, safer, quicker alternative is to spend a couple of hours reading through this informative book loaded with questions and answers from more than 20 years of experience working in and with the system to help you reduce your risk and cut through the red tape delays that are inherent in the system.

Please tell us about your current release.
A Pecunious Life is a book that helps people have a wealthy life. My main goal in writing this book is to just help as many people as I can to have a better life, a more fullfilling life, and to follow their dreams. I share what I have learned through my experiences and travels and then help the reader make a plan for a better life.

What inspired you to write this book?
My inspiration comes from my the experiences of my past, my travels, my determination to live every day of my life to its fullest and to inspire as many people as I can do the same.

What exciting story are you working on next?
I’m in the final steps of finishing another book as I write this. I would like to continue to write in a way that will help people find their dreams, find their true calling in life and become a positive energy for those around them. The book is call A Thousand Thoughts To Ponder.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I've been writing for ten years mostly in journals I have kept. This is my first published work though and I am excited about reaching this milestone I set for myself.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I do not write full time. I am a telecommunications specialist working on military installations in Europe and Asia. I travel a great deal and spend my traveling time writing.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
For me, writing early in the morning in a sun drenched window is the best place to be. The house is quiet and most of the time my mind is still empty of "other" distracting thoughts, which allows me to let the writing flow. I get my pot of coffee going, gather my pad of paper and half dozen different colored pens and I just start with what comes to mind and go from there.

Anything additional you'd like to share with the readers?
It’s always been a goal of mine to write a book, but couldn’t find a direction until I just started writing and going with the flow.
