Bio:
Shereé Danielle Parker is a native of Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was raised as one of five children in an urban area that posed many challenges for her because of high crime rates, teen pregnancy, drugs and poverty. These tribulations encouraged her to beat the odds of being a statistics as young African American woman. She holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in African American Studies from Millersville University and a Master’s degree in Human Services from Lincoln University, both located in Pennsylvania. She’s also a second year doctoral student in a Counseling Psychology program at Argosy University. She is also a Motivational Speaker and Certified Professional Life Coach and is employed as a Mental Health Clinician at a social services agency in the city of Philadelphia. Her passion for wanting to be an inspiration to others, especially young women, has taken on a form through not only her profession as a change agent, but through the use of words. As a Christian, God has shown her favor and continues to bless her each day through spiritual guidance. Thirty Days of Spiritual Inspiration and Journaling is the first of many works to come for the new author.

Read it, meditate on it and then allow yourself to experience God’s divine order for your life.

What inspired you to write this book?
I was inspired to write this book as a result of the feedback that I received on Facebook by family and friends who read my daily post and they were inspired by how my words resonated with them on an array of levels (i.e. spiritually, emotionally) especially when they needed words of encouragement or to be lifted up during difficult times. I also felt the need to share with the world how they can within 30 days have a transforming of their lives and mind as I experienced as a result of my own work.

Excerpt:
Don’t Worry… Be Happy

Don’t be jaded by the troubles of the world. Take those experiences and make them into happy memories by overcoming the obstacles you have faced.

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.”
Exodus 14:13

List three obstacles you have faced and how you have turned them into positives.

What exciting story are you working on next?
My next book will be a memoir and it will focus on how I was able to overcome the challenges and barriers that I had faced living in an impoverished neighborhood to becoming an entrepreneur, doctoral student and living my dreams of being able to help others achieve their goals. I want people to know that they don’t have to be a statistics or a product of their environment and that there is a world full of opportunities if they work hard.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I realize that I was a writer when I discovered my love of poetry during my preteen stage. I fell in love with self-expression through writing about my different experiences with peers and the transitions that were occurring in my life at the time. I had a lot to write about because my parents had just went through a divorce, my mother was on welfare and she was trying to raise us as a single parent and I had to adjust to new relationships with peers because I moved around a lot. During that time my love for writing exploded.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
I write on a part-time basis or as the spirit moves me. My writing occurs in increments were I will write one day for 30 minutes and another day for 1-2 hours. When I am not writing, my attention is consumed with working on my doctorate as I am in school part-time and I work full-time. I was recently invited to write for a woman’s magazine on the topic of spirituality so my part-time status may soon change to full-time. I find time to write based upon my daily schedule as I factor in time to focus on me and during that down period, I enjoy writing.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I need to listen to music when I write and I must have my headphones on or I will become distracted by the stimulus in my immediate surroundings. The music must also be from the 1970s era too. It’s just something about the music from that time period that gets my creativity flowing.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
As a child, I thought I was going to become a nurse but to my surprise I ended up becoming a mental health clinician who loves working with teenagers.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
When I am not working or writing, I enjoy traveling the world and spending time with my dog, Roxie who is a Yorkshire Terrier and the cutest 9 lb baby. I don’t have any children yet so I consider Roxie my baby. I am also in the midst of working on my business website, Sheree Parker Coaching & Consulting, LLC which will be launched very soon.
