Interview with Christian author Cathy Morenzie

Christian author and personal fitness trainer Cathy Morenzie is here today talking about Healthy by Design: Weight Loss, God’s Way. This book is a 21-day weight loss and devotional guide that will teach you how to trust in God to help you reach your weight loss goals. It provides you with 21 stories from the Bible related to health and fitness, 21 action steps, and 21 principles that will help you lose weight.

Bio:
Cathy Morenzie was born in Trinidad and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She attended McMaster University where she developed a passion for understanding the physical, physiological, psychological and spiritual aspects of weight loss. She graduated to become one of the first black personal fitness trainers in the country. Nearly thirty years later, Cathy is now a sought after personal trainer, author, blogger and presenter and has been a leader in the faith/fitness industry since 2008. Her impact has influenced thousands of people over the years to help them lose weight and develop positive attitudes about their bodies and about fitness.

She is happily married with one son and two step-children.

Welcome, Cathy. What inspired you to write this book?
As a personal fitness trainer, I had a passion for health and fitness and as a Christian, I have a passion for God yet I found that for me and most other people of a fitness journey, there seemed to be a disconnect between their faith and their health.


Excerpt:
Americans spend $40 billion a year on weight-loss programs and products. You probably have spent hundreds if not thousands yourself on products or programs promising you fast results.

You need a solution for how to release the weight without falling for sales gimmicks and unhealthy diets. What if I told you that you never had to spend another penny on a weight loss gimmick again? This book was written to help you achieve the best health of your life, as well as to draw closer to God. God does not want you going around the same mountain, time and time again. He wants you free. 2 Cor. 3:17 says, “Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty,” and beloved, I want you to experience that liberty.

For more than half of my life, I tried to change just about everything about myself.

I felt I was too fat, too hippy, too loud, too soft-spoken, too ugly, too conservative, too black, too easy, too afraid, too lazy, too worldly, too Godly, and most of all, too undisciplined to make any of these changes stick. Talk about bondage!

Not until I cried out like Paul in Romans 7:24 to be delivered from this body of death did I begin to receive God’s healing, peace and rest from all the stories I was telling myself. It’s an incredible feeling of rest to be able to do less and receive more. My prayer is that you will receive the same.

The process of God gently changing me continues day by day, bit by bit. I want to share with you what God has taught me to so far. I pray that you receive it and allow it to SHAPE you into the precious miracle that God has created you to be.



What exciting book are you working on next?
I’ve recently finished a collection of stories loosely based on my real life clients with each story showing what challenges they had to overcome to reach (and stay at) their target weight and how they achieved it. 12 Secret Fitness Tips You Need to Know will be available on Amazon soon.

My next project will be My Life as a Lab Rat a fun guide/look at what it’s like to do those medical studies you see advertised (at least in urban areas) and the interesting people who make them a regular part of their daily lives.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I only considered myself a writer after getting all the positive feedback from people who read my book and told me how much it has impacted their life.

Do you write full-time? If so, what's your work day like? If not, what do you do other than write and how do you find time to write?
No, I am a personal fitness trainer. I’m an avid exerciser so I enjoy running, going to the gym and spending time with my family. I write ideas when they come to me and then go hard for a few month to put it all together.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I snack as I write which does not help my waistline especially since I usually write about health and fitness.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a telephone operator. You used to have to call the operator every time we had to make a long distance call and I loved how they had to patch you through.

Anything additional you want to share with the readers?
One thing I really want people to understand is that Weight Loss, God’s Way is not just a book about weight loss. It is a fundamental life style change based on the idea that we are created ‘Healthy by Design.’

For example, we don’t address the symptoms of being overweight (the weight itself), but rather tackle the underlying causes (your habits, your fears and what’s driving the behaviors that lead to being overweight in the first place).
