About the
author:
S.E.
Burr wrote Time Traveling Hookers over the course of a weekend at a Tom Bird
writing retreat in Santa Fe, NM. It is based on a dream she had a few weeks
prior to the retreat, but she did no advanced planning of the plot. She was
very surprised to discover that the story was a romance, as she did not often
read romances, let alone write them. She quite enjoyed the experience and
intends to write more romances in the future, but cautions that what she
intends to write and what she actually writes can be two very different things.
She
is the author of the young adult novel, Goblin Fruit, inspired by the poem
“Goblin Market” by Christina Rossetti.
The sequel, Goblin Girl, is coming soon. It was inspired by her desire
to find out more of the story.
A
nearly lifelong resident of rural New Mexico, S.E. Burr loves the desert, her
family, and her cat.
About the
book:
Three
modern day roommates and recent college grads take a time machine back to the
Wild West. The time machine breaks, stranding them in the past where they are
forced to join a brothel to survive.
With the help of
future technology, they're able to trick their customers into thinking they're
getting what they pay for, without actually having to do the deed.
But the scam involves
getting much more up close and personal with smelly, 19th century hicks than
germaphobe and prude, Anastasia, is comfortable with.
One customer seems
sweeter, more attractive, and better groomed than the rest. Could she actually
fall for a cowboy from the dirty, disgusting past?
Excerpt from Time
Traveling Hookers:
Etta hooted. “Art of lovemaking!”
she said, slapping her leg. “Well that’s the funniest thing I ever heard. Ain’t
no art going on here. Ain’t no love either. This is a business I’m keeping, and
if you want a room in my brothel, you’ll damn site bring in the money to pay
for it.”
Beth was angry. Angry. And when Beth
was angry she’d say something she shouldn’t, or worse.
Anastasia put a restraining hand on
Beth’s arm and Beth glared at her.
“We’ll make money,” said Anastasia.
“We’ll make you plenty of money, but we’re tired and dirty. We’d like a bath
and a bed so we can be ready for tonight.”
“Well, we’ll see, give you a trial,
like,” said the woman. “Go on in. I won’t show you to your rooms. I don’t wear
these dirty things into the house, and I’ve got a good sight more work to do
here, but hopefully you can find your own way without waking the whole house.
The girls are still asleep, and there are some gentleman callers hanging
around, who I’m sure don’t want to be disturbed.”
They went into the whorehouse. It
was nice, very nice. On their first trip
into the town, Anastasia had taken it for a wealthy man’s house, a house big
enough for a big family, with sumptuous room to spare.
But as she now knew, this was a different
kind of house, and as she would soon learn, this was a different kind of
family.
